Hi-8

Did you ever wish you had eight fingers on each hand? Maybe not. How about eight strings on each guitar? Then my latest live-edge electric guitar is for you.

Hi-8 is, as its name suggests, an eight-stringed guitar designed for higher-than-typical tunings. With scale lengths from 605mm to 660mm, it can easily accommodate a high ‘a’. By using different gauges, almost any tuning is possible, including all fourths.

The spectacular body is made of old California redwood reclaimed from the forest floor, with a highlight of butternut for the treble horn. The wide and flat-ish compound-radius fretboard of ziricote is ideal for fast sweep-picking and precise soloing. A sturdy Ovangkol neck shaft with dual-action spoke-nut truss rod means the perfect relief is always achievable.

The integrated bridge and tuner is a brand new design. The body of each tuner is of 3-d printed aluminum, with other parts made of carefully modelled 3-d printed bronze. A great range of intonation, action, and tuning adjustment is possible.

The bronze theme continues to the nut and frets, made of long-wearing Evo alloy. The single pickup is a wide version of the Lace Alumitone x-bar, simply coupled to a single volume control. For a skilled player, all the tones one could need are right under their fingertips- all eight of them ;)
