Tataki
Heat and thunder- this meaty slab of bass brings it all to the table. Tataki has a body of a single piece of Padouk, deeply charred and treated for handling. The brilliant red grain is exposed later by carving away the contours and cutaways. Maintaining the theme, the neck is carved from deeply torrified maple, capped with a cocobolo rosewood fingerboard.
That fingerboard is created in such a way that there are only twelve frets; beyond that, the fingerboard is ramped thicker to allow seamless transitioning to the fretless upper portion, all the way to a hypothetical 26th fret.
As per the clients’ request, the electronics allow each of the Lace Alumitone bassbars to be output independently. There are two volumes, a master tone, and a momentary push-button kill switch. If needed, a single mono cable can be used, blending the two pickups together.
The hardware is bespoke as well, machined in a small batch from aircraft aluminum, with knurled brass knobs, stainless steel screws, and ball thrust bearings for smooth, easy operation. It was made in collaboration with Island Instruments to utilize Dingwall Guitars’ ingenious bass saddle mechanism in a headless format.
